Something borrowed, something blue. Something old, something new. Don’t know what this does do, do you?
Okay crappy poetry aside, who’s day is it really but the bride’s. Now we might be taking this a little to the extreme these days. Have you seen that bridezilla show? And now there’s a new one where the bride’s compete against each other. Either that or it goes to the other extreme where everyone seems to forget it’s the bride’s day. Mother’s and mother-in-laws-to-be somehow end up trying to take the whole thing over. Of course shows like those play on the extremes. Personally I’d like to see a bride tell the monster-in-law to back off with out being bitchier than the Bride of Frankenstein, but that’s just me.
One of the big deals of a wedding is the dress. Every bride wants to be stunning in her own way. And it tends to cost a fortune to do so. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of work that goes into making the dresses, veils and jewelry. But if you are in the finacial position that going all out on your dress might start this new stage of life a little too far in the hole then check out this awesome tutorial ThreadBangers did a while back.
Yeah, you heard that right, $10. They also have a great tutorial on how to make a body form. If you use the bride-to-be as the model for the body form you have a perfect replica to make a dress on. If she’s into sewing as well let her keep the body form as a wedding gift (or part of it) to make her own clothes from then on.

Hi it is me! (Okay so it is Amber since you all probably can’t guess who me is) This is my first blog that I have written, Meghan the more talented with computers normally handles most of it. But if I don’t get banned from doing it after this one maybe you will get to hear more from the Amberness later. . . and yeah I might get to doing the post blog thing here in a minute. I have a bad habit of getting distracted. Okay focusing on wedding cakes now. . . I took a few cake decorating classes last year and loved it. So I this blog has some really neat looking cake toppers, pre-made eatable (Yes eatable is word I promise) flowers, and other cake needs. Now go forth and enjoy because here the Cake is not a lie!
P.S. Thanks to Meghan who is getting this actually set up on the page.

A Place to Remember

You know people make a big deal about the dress, the cakes, the ring, but what really seems to make a wedding memorable to me is the place. Even those quick chapels in Vegas where you get married by a fake Elvis seem to pay attention to this. I never liked the idea of spending hundreds on a dress I would wear once, but I am a sucker for an awesome location.
There are a lot of ways to make a place memorable. It doesn’t have to be a fairytale castle or a fancy church. (although there’s this storybook mansion up the canyon that does weddings that is just freaking awesome). Well placed Christmas lights can make a backyard magical, airy fabrics give a basic reception hall an exotic allure, and personal touches such as a photo garland remind everyone there that this is your day.

So the big question has been asked and answered and now you need to tell everyone. And then get a bunch of them together in one place to celebrate. This is also an opportunity to, without being a bride/groomzilla, this is your day. Yeah it’s suppose to be a piece of something that tells people where to show up and when, but it should also have a bit of what to expect. Catering? Registered? Not actually accepting gifts? (Hey I’m all for the forget the gifts, send money to this charity instead idea.) Just need a head count? Include this all in the invite and have an RSVP card or a link to RSVP online.
I wish I could have found it again. There was one item I really wanted to include in this one but I couldn’t find it (Etsy, you really need to make the favorites searchable and sort able. I have almost 200 pages of favs now!) A couple weeks ago I stumbled upon invitations made out of plantable paper. I freaking love this stuff. It’s the coolest for tags and wrapping paper and all that. What these were though were plantable paper as the tag with the invite stuff on it tied to a little bag. Inside the bag was a biodegradable mini pot with planting soil in it. The tag said something about joining them as they let their lives together begin to grow.
