You know I don’t think supply sellers get as much credit as they should. There are thousands of supply sellers on Etsy, both commercial and handmade, as well as a ton of crafters getting rid of extra supplies through destashing. I get tons of our bead supplies from destash sales and you save SO much from it. So much so that it’s hard to limit yourself sometimes, leaving you to need to destash yourself.

Elvis Week

When I was a kid I had this baby sitter that was obsessed with everything Elvis. I remember his songs constantly playing. I think that’s why I don’t like many of them (with the exception of Hound Dog and Blue Suede Shoes). I do however love the references to Elvis in sci-fi. The mention in Men in Black and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and stories like Elvis in the Attic show how one charismatic personality can become pretty much immortal. What are future cultures going to think when they dig up piles of Elvis memorabilia and find him mentioned in such stories? Ten bucks says with as often as his name and Oprah’s come up and the tendency for us to believe our predecessors are more religious than ourselves, the future archeologists will probably speculate they are gods or something >_<.

In honor of my new found appreciation of really freaking random holidays, here’s to Legal Drinking Age Day! No I’m completely serious (or at least as serious as I can be after a shot or two).
A new personal favorite is the black cherry Mike’s Hard Lemonade. A lot of friends of my boyfriend refer to Mikes and other flavored drinks as bitch beer, but I’ve never seen any of them turn it down (in fact you leave it in the fridge unattended while they are over and the stuff seems to mysterious vanish instantly).
Personally I can’t stand the taste of beer, but rum, now there’s a drink. Especially for cooking. I make rum spice cookies and rum pizzelles, and my brother’s rum ice cream recipe is the best (combine that with a pizzelle shaped into a cone and yay!). Another alcohol baked goodie I’m very partial to is sherry cakes.
There are a lot of makers on Etsy who celebrate the joys of alcohol.

As always remember to enjoy your booze with brains. Underage drinking can damage still developing bodies and minds, driving drunk is selfish and moronic and if your beer is a coping mechanism as well as a beverage you have a problem and need to seek help and support to deal with that problem.

Why’s the Bride Blushing?

Something borrowed, something blue. Something old, something new. Don’t know what this does do, do you?
Okay crappy poetry aside, who’s day is it really but the bride’s. Now we might be taking this a little to the extreme these days. Have you seen that bridezilla show? And now there’s a new one where the bride’s compete against each other. Either that or it goes to the other extreme where everyone seems to forget it’s the bride’s day. Mother’s and mother-in-laws-to-be somehow end up trying to take the whole thing over. Of course shows like those play on the extremes. Personally I’d like to see a bride tell the monster-in-law to back off with out being bitchier than the Bride of Frankenstein, but that’s just me.
One of the big deals of a wedding is the dress. Every bride wants to be stunning in her own way. And it tends to cost a fortune to do so. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of work that goes into making the dresses, veils and jewelry. But if you are in the finacial position that going all out on your dress might start this new stage of life a little too far in the hole then check out this awesome tutorial ThreadBangers did a while back.
Yeah, you heard that right, $10. They also have a great tutorial on how to make a body form. If you use the bride-to-be as the model for the body form you have a perfect replica to make a dress on. If she’s into sewing as well let her keep the body form as a wedding gift (or part of it) to make her own clothes from then on.

Hi it is me! (Okay so it is Amber since you all probably can’t guess who me is) This is my first blog that I have written, Meghan the more talented with computers normally handles most of it. But if I don’t get banned from doing it after this one maybe you will get to hear more from the Amberness later. . . and yeah I might get to doing the post blog thing here in a minute. I have a bad habit of getting distracted. Okay focusing on wedding cakes now. . . I took a few cake decorating classes last year and loved it. So I this blog has some really neat looking cake toppers, pre-made eatable (Yes eatable is word I promise) flowers, and other cake needs. Now go forth and enjoy because here the Cake is not a lie!
P.S. Thanks to Meghan who is getting this actually set up on the page.

Advent Garlands and Sweets

Wow, has it really been two weeks since I last posted! I know, shame on me. Good news is I’m going to be posting a lot between now and Christmas. I’m going to be trying to do a daily theme gift guide from the 1st up until Christmas Eve.
Until then I think it’s time I shared what I’ve been up to in my workshop. I’ve recently added a couple new items to my shop.
ADVENT GARLANDS
I made a special box out of scrapbook card-stock using origami. Add in some custom number tags, and pretty ribbons, and an advent garland is born.
There are some things I’ve been planning on doing with the one I made for my son, beyond the traditional treats and little toys. We have made a couple of slips that go in them. Now my little one isn’t reading yet (we’ve just started on what sounds the letters make, so maybe
by next year), so each slip has pictures on it instead. There is a pancake breakfast slip, a movie night (he’s too young for the theater yet) slip, a cookie baking day slip, a go see Santa Claus and Christmas Village slip, and a holiday party at Grandma’s slip. I’m hoping this will tame down the “When Santa here?” questions we’ve been getting since
Halloween.
I’ve also turned the boxes into ornaments, ring boxes, and made larger ones to be used as gift boxes.
.
.
SWEET TREATS
Pizzelles and spice cookies are both family favorites. I
recently got a wonderful pizzelle maker that makes mini pizzelles. They aren’t quit big enough to make ice cream cones out of, but they do work to make cannolis.
The original recipe was from my great grandmother’s friend, but has been adapted gradually over the years. So far I have a dozen flavors aside from the traditional almond
and anise flavors. I’ve also been working on an apple pie flavor (mainly because my boyfriend loves apple pie ice-cream and it would make the perfect cones for him) and have been considering a blueberry version. Right now what I have is almond, anise, french vanilla, chocolate, peppermint, orange, strawberry, cherry, lemon, chocolate banana, rum spice, ginger spice, pumpkin spice, and earl grey.
Right now I only have the mini pizzelles and spice cookie
mix added to my shop, but the cannoli shells and maybe some ice-cream cones from my large pizzelle maker will be added as soon as I can find a way to safely ship them. I also plan to add chocolate dipped pizzelles soon.
The spice cookie mix is available in a gift basket and the pizzelles are available in a pizzelle of the month club as well.
