Change to Wing Order Schedule
27 Sep 2011 Leave a Comment
Due to the overwhelming amount of orders we have already received we are changing the order schedule for wings. The cut off date is now Oct 10th for all made to order and custom made wings, and any order placed after Oct. 5th will require a rush fee and possibly rush shipping. Seriously, we have been shipping off a handful of wings every day and the current build que is still
around 20 deep. After the 10th we will be deactivating all of our wing listings on Etsy except those that are ready to ship. We may still need to cut off orders sooner depending on how many come in between now and then, but the 10th is the current date. That means you only have 12 more days to order wings.
We have added a few masks to our shop and several more will be
added over the next few days. In each of their listings are suggested wings to go with them
.
Meghan has started a new shop too! Fairytale Stitches will be the home of her new amigurumi patterns. There are only a few now, but she has a huge list of patterns she is making PDFs for that will be added to her shop before Christmas. These patterns are also going to be available on Ravelry.com

If you haven’t seen Firefly or Serenity before then gorramit your brainpan must be emptier than I thought. For those of you with the misfortune to have missed this great series, it’s currently available on both Hulu and NetFlix. The Browncoat community that is the fans of Firefly have to be the most dedicated (sane) fans you’ll meet. And they do a lot of charity work using the movie and the series to bring each other together to get it all done.
The fan base was so strong that a second movie was made by the fans and all the sales are going to charity. It’s called Browncoats Redemption and the sales of the DVDs end on September 1st. Go to the website, buy it, get a great piece of the verse and give a helping hand to the charities supported by the sales. While your at it go watch the BDS (big damn series – Firefly) and the BDM (big damn movie – Serenity).

It’s That Time of Year Again

Halloween may seem ages off, and you’re probably already annoyed by all the retail shops already throwing the haunting season at you, but we’re doing it for a good reason.
Halloween gets insanely busy for us. All of our wings are made to order, and while we try to anticipate as much of the rush as possible, there is really no way for us to predict which of our designs will be popular each year. One way we are preparing is by making blank wings since many designs use the same shape. Hopefully this will cut a lot of the build time down.
This year will be even more hectic, because Amber (who paints the wings) is due on the big night. We’re all super excited about the new arrival and are adapting our usual pre-Halloween prep accordingly.
So we are asking anyone who has been planning to order wings for this Halloween to please order early. Especially custom orders.
We will be cutting off sales early this year too. The following list details the cut off dates for wing orders this year.
Local Orders
In Stock Wings must be ordered by Oct 29th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Made to Order wings must be ordered by Oct 20th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Custom Order wings must be ordered by Oct 15th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Domestic Orders (i.e. within the US)
With Standard Shipping:
In Stock wings must be ordered by Oct 10th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Made to Order wings must be ordered by Oct 1st to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Custom Order wings must be ordered by Sept 25th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
With Rush Shipping:
In Stock Wings must be ordered by Oct 26th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Made to Order wings must be ordered by Oct 20th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Custom Order wings must be ordered by Oct 12th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
International Orders
With Standard Shipping:
In Stock Wings must be ordered by Sept 20th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Made to Order wings must be ordered by Sept 17th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Custom Order wings must be ordered by Sept 11th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
With Rush Shipping:
In Stock Wings must be ordered by Oct 20th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Made to Order wings must be ordered by Oct 15th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
Custom Order wings must be ordered by Oct 10th to ensure delivery by Oct. 30th
You can still order wings after these dates, but we can not guarantee they will arrive by Halloween.
Also, we have been adding some new advent garland kits to our inventory, some of which have a spooky vibe. While these kits are mostly used for counting down to Christmas, it is not there only use. Request customized tags to turn them into personalized party favors or packaging for trick-or-treats unlike any others. Keep the numbered tags and turn the garland into not only favors and
decoration and your Halloween bash, but also into a game.
Don’t have time for the DIY touch this year, that’s OK. We have recently also added a Kit to Complete Upgrade option. Pick the kit you like and we’ll make it.
Because of the limited edition nature of the papers we use to create these kits, many are one of a kind. The most we’ve ever had of one garland design was three. This is the main reason we have added this upgrade option and why we list as kits as we get the materials to give you the widest range of options.

Tools of the Trade

Anyone who is into crafting can tell you, making this is addictive. I feel all out of sorts if I go too long without creating something and have acquired a hefty stash of tools, supplies, and such. We’re working on getting to where we can buy a house instead of renting and at the top of the list of things we want in our new home is a space I can turn into a proper studio/office with plenty of storage for all my odds and ends.

Pillage First THEN Burn
29 Jul 2011 Leave a Comment
I’ve always been a bit fascinated with ancient games, especially board and dice games. When we made the dision to add games to our arsenal of crafty creations, I just knew Hnefatafl had to be amongst them.
Hnefatafl is a tafl game, played as far back as 400CE and is nicknamed King’s Table and Viking Chess. This ancient game was very popular all the way up to the 11th century and held on through today. This tafl game was most popular amongst the Norse, but was played across Europe. It is thought to be one of a handful of games that eventually evolved into chess as we know it today and a world hnefatafl tournament is played in Fetlar every year (this year it will be on August 6th).
Check out all these other great items we found on Etsy. Just imagine decking out the family room all viking or celt style, kicking back with a flagon of mead and stroking your braided beard (real or fake) while contemplating your next ruthless move.

Our Hnefatafl set includes glass stone pieces, instructions and history of the game, a poem form of the instructions, riddle cards, and are all contained in a wooden game board box that has had the game board hand burned on top.
We will be introducing more tafl games to our shop this winter, maybe sooner, as well as other games from around the world, as well as peg doll Hnefatafl sets featuring an army of vikings pitted against an army of celts.
Raspberry Days

I have been going to Bear Lake (a lake on the border between Idaho and Utah) every summer since I was a baby. It is the most stunningly blue bit of water I have ever seen. My great grandma has a membership to one of the camp grounds right on the lake shore and we got a real kick out of the staff last year when they realized that there were 5 generations around our fire when they came to say hi to her.

It’s not really real camping there anymore since there’s everything from a pool to an actual little hotel on the beach now if you feel like renting a room instead of sleeping in a tent or motor home, but it’s still always been a ton of fun. It’s just not summer without going to Bear Lake, having a shake from Garden City and getting usually fairly sun burned. Every few years we catch a show at the Pickleville Playhouse and I always seem to come home with a couple of bags of the mini sea shells that are all over the lakes beaches. And as crystal clear and startlingly blue as the water there, letting you see way deeper than you’d think possible, there are big sections of the lake where the bottom hasn’t been found yet. There are even campfire type stories telling of a lake monster like Nessie. I had one of my friends when we were kids convinced that the trail of ripples motor boats leave in their wake was really a lake monster following the boat.
While I’ve gone year after year, I have only been to the biggest event in the area a couple of times. Raspberry Days is a huge celebration they have every year in Garden City (a city near the lake) to welcome in the raspberry harvest. I think the last time our yearly trip landed on the Raspberry Days festival I was about 11 or 12 and the thing I remember best was the wooden catapult for flinging raspberries at unsuspecting siblings and cousins. I’m really excited to be taking my son to his first Raspberry Days festival and he is so getting one of those catapults. Good thing his dad isn’t picky about how he gets his raspberries as long as their still edible after impact.
All of these items kind of remind me of Bear Lake and how its not just a place, its part of who I am.

Utah is kind of a strange place. Green jello and drinking laws that you have to have a doctorate to understand half the time. But it’s home. July 24th is Pioneer Days and we will have a booth at the Ogden Farmer’s Market the Saturday before and be staying late hennaing those at the celebrations.

We will be at the Dark Arts Festival on June 10, 11th and 12th at Area 51 in Salt Lake City, UT. At our booth we will be doing our body art (henna, glitter tattoos and face painting) as well as selling our jewelry, wings and toys.
Tickets are $10 a day at the door or $25 for the whole weekend.
The headline bands are Synapse, Espermachine, and Scission. There will also be several local bands playing, inclyding Arsenic Addtion, La Decollatage, Redemption, Riverhead, Tragic Black, Zombiance, Jeffrie A. Moir.
In addition to the many bands that will be performing over the weekend there will also be a fashion show on Sunday, belly dancers, burlesque, and other performing arts groups.
Also, to let all of you know, we will be at an event every weekend from now until October. So check back here regularly to see where we will be next. More on our next event soon

One Week Down Two to Go
11 May 2011 Leave a Comment
Our first weekend at the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire had a few ups and downs, but over all went great. Friday was a touch slow (normal for the first day of the faire) and Saturday more than made up for it. Sunday I believe would have gone well also if it hadn’t been for the weather. It was cold and rainy the whole day, and we ended up having to close up early to make sure some of our items didn’t get ruined. We made it out of the downpour with minimal losses (nothing like at Witch Stock last October).
This faire was the debue for many of our new items, including a slew of new jewelry, our peg dolls, and new board games. My Mema’s stockings are dotting the booth as usual (but only the ones with period reasonable patterns, the whole new line she has come out with this spring will be soon appearing in her shop and at our soonest non-period restricted event). We expanded the types of pointy ears we are offering at our booth also. They are all still from the wonderful artists at Aradani Costumes. They went over so well last year and we loved the ears we got for ourselves so much we just had to get more.
The incense, bath salts, lavender wands and wood burned boxes (except the game boards) are not ours. We are sharing a booth this year (though next event I think we are definitely opting for two canopies. It’s getting crowded).
There are still several more days to the fair left, so don’t think for a moment you’ve missed out yet. This week the faire will be going from Thursday to Sunday, opening at 10am and closing at 6pm. According to the weather forecast there won’t be any rain this weekend, so here’s to hoping the have it right. National Geographic will be working on a documentary on the Knights of Mayhem (the jousting team who always performs at this faire and many many others) on Saturday May 14th.
The faire’s last weekend will be May 20th through the 22nd.
If all goes well we might have enough together to go to ConDuit as a treat. Sadly we missed it last year because we were at the Saint George ren faire (which I hate to say, was sorely lacking. We would have much rather gone to ConDuit, but hindsight is 20/20). If things go REALLY well at the URFFF we will have gotten together enough to go to Faerieworlds up in Oregon! So please come support us at the Utah Renassiance Festival and Fantasy Faire because we REALLY want to go to Faerieworlds.
This is by no means our last faire of the year. We will be attending the Utah Dark Arts Festival in mid June for sure (just got our acceptance earlier this evening) and have applied to a couple other events who we’ll be hearing back from once their submissions close so cross your fingers for those. We will also as always be at the Ogden Historic 25th Street Farmer’s Market this summer. Depending on which way one of those other event’s applications go we may or may not be at the farmer’s market for the opening day a one or two of the August weekends, but we will be there for all but those weekends for sure.
